Join us for an evening with acclaimed novelist Sarah Perry

Sarah will talk to us about her newest book, Enlightenment, a story of love and astronomy told over the course of twenty years through the lives of two improbable best friends.

Sarah Perry is the internationally best-selling author of the novels Melmoth, The Essex Serpent and After Me Comes the Flood, and the non-fiction Essex Girls.

The ticket includes a welcome drink on arrival.

The one-hour talk will begin at 19:00 and will be followed by a book signing.

Small dishes and drinks are available to purchase from the bar afterwards. If you would like to reserve a table, please contact hello.corner@tate.org.uk

EA Festival Conversations

This talk is part of our EA Festival Conversations series. These intimate monthly events explore pressing topics of our time.

Sarah Perry is a winner of the Waterstone’s Book of the Year Award and the British Book of the Year Award and has been nominated for major literary prizes including the Women’s Prize for Fiction, the Dylan Thomas Prize, the Folio Prize and the Costa Novel Award. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and has a PhD in Creative Writing.

“It’s glorious, doing what her books do best: intertwining a love story with reams of esoteric learning and big ideas… This is a beautiful, memorable novel.”

– Observer

“Perry seamlessly blends an absorbing mystery with her principal characters’ personal conflicts to create a narrative as propulsive as it is emotionally resonant. Swiftly sketched but fully realized secondary characters give the novel a social texture more commonly found in Victorian literature, an impression bolstered by Perry’s intricately layered prose. Much of the story is sad, but a radiant finale suggests reconciliation and renewal. Thoughtful, sensitive and beautifully written.”

– Kirkus

“Perry’s enchanting latest blends a ghost story with a meditation on astronomy and loneliness anchored on the periodic reappearances of Halley’s Comet. Perry’s affection for her characters, even in their most flawed moments, adds to the fullness of their realization, as she makes it abundantly clear that the faults and frailties that distinguish them lie not in the stars but in themselves. Perry magnificently evokes the wonder of the cosmos.”

– Publishers Weekly

EA Festival is the producer of two biennial festivals, EA Festival, an ideas and literary festival, and EA Sustain, a festival about Environment, Culture and Entrepreneurship. Both festivals feature top thought leaders, authors and performers and EA Festival is the top festival of its kind in the East of England.

Please arrive via The Corner Bar entrance on the North/Riverside of the building.

The ticket includes a free drink upon arrival and we suggest arriving at 18:30

The one-hour talk will commence at 19:00 and will take place in the adjacent Starr Auditorium.

Small plates and drinks are availabe to purchase at the bar after the event. If you would like to reserve a table, please contact hello.corner@tate.org.uk
